Water suckers, we growing! Or, how Christmas Stars turn red

Poinsettias, or Christmas Stars, pop up everywhere once the holidays are coming closer. What looks like bright red flowers are specialised leaves, so-called bracts. Bracts turn from green to red when the plants start to flower in response to shorter days and longer periods of darkness, a phenomenon which is also known as photoperiodism.

We ain’t got nothing to lose,
Water suckers, we growing!
